Bird room work!

I finally got tired of putting off finishing the bird room, so hubby and I buckled down on it today. It looks good so far! Pardon the bare-ish cages, I decided to do a big toy and perch wash while I was at it. Also sorry for the crap pic quality, theyre from my phone as my computer is still not cooperating.

Sunny, the lovebirds, then the budgies...

Cookie and Kiwi. Cookie and Kiwi were moved to the tallboy and Sunny is on the bedside table now. The breeding pair is back in the flight as they were freaked out by being moved to the breeder cage, so everyone came inside as we've been kind of stormy here and quite cold at night.

FYI for locals, Dalton's is now carrying Totally Organics pellets.

Sunny

We have a new addition :)

"Sunny" is one of the pied babies from Desert Lovebirds. My computer is shunning anything with a USB so you will just have to visit her blog to catch a peek :) This is the sweetest baby I have ever had the pleasure of having. She insists on being on me constantly, wants kisses and snuggles all day long.. she is amazing!

Caught the lovies in the act the other day, they are starting to get protective of their nestbox so I'm transferring them to a breeding cage and bringing them inside, unfortunately. I'm hoping that doesn't disturb them too much, I would rather transfer them than the other pair so that I am sure they are warm at night etc. - I'm a huge worrier.

Cookie and Kiwi still lovehate each other, they do not want to play on the stand together, but when they are separated (even within eyesight) it gets VERY LOUD VERY FAST.

Sorry for another quickie!

One Helluva Month

Both lovebird pairs are very interested in the nestbox, nobody staying in overnight, or even near it, they act like its a plaything. I thought for sure Basil and HIS (!!!) mate would take it over, but I guess their... erm... playtime (!) was not successful.

This month has been rough. I do plan on updating more and posting more pics... when I'm less injured. LOL First I had a second degree burn on my arm, then my kid gave me a black eye, then I burned my foot so that I can't wear shoes, etc. etc. I am a total wreck. My husband has fractured a finger and gotten an infection in his surgical area in his sinus. I'm feeling a little woe-is-me today, especially after getting a diagnosis I wasn't expecting.

But... I have FOSTER KITTENS :)

They will stay with us until they are on solid foods (another week or two). I am not going to get them vaccinated, I'm going to let the new owners decide if that's something they want to do. There have been a lot of unfortunate (mostly lethal) reactions to the vaccines around here and I just don't feel like it's my decision to make. But I am loving them and keeping them safe and happy until they can go to their new homes. Yay! The medium hair is a female, and the shorthair is a male :)

That has nothing to do with birds at all, does it... hmm.

Bird mash

Making bird mash today. Green beans, carrots, beans, peas, corn, fresh and dried peppers, ABC basil pasta, whole grains, sprouted grains, fresh herbs, herb salad.. it's so beautiful! The Kid and I even shared some with the birds. And they all love it, even the budgies eat their veggies.

Also, here is a video of Jim and Cookie shortly after he arrived :)

What!

Now I know I wrote a post about Cookie's arrival. It isn't in my saved entries and its not on the blog so boo!

Cookie arrived safe and sound and talked to me the whole way home. He was so happy to be out of his shipping crate. We talked and talked (Step up! Step up! Wanna cookie? Step up! Step up! Come here!) and we put his cage together. Now, this bird is really something else. He was so snuggly and sleepy after his trip, that after a few pets he curled up under my chin for a long nap. He is such a marshmallow.

When Jim came home though... He started pointing for him so strongly he nearly fell off of my arms a few times. He ran down my arm to meet Jim, and it was a grand reunion with lots of kisses and talking and scritches and cuddles. There's no doubt in my mind that Cookie remembered Jim after those two years!

Shortly after I went on a trip and have just come back. Kiwi and Cookie do not appear to like each other much... er, at all. LOL I think little miss Kiwi is JEALOUS of all the attention Cookie has gotten! They are both in our bedroom now along with the budgie boys. Basil has been doing very well with the flock and everybody looks healthy and happy!

Sorry for the short update, I will be sure to post a video of Cookie with Jim very soon! :)

Basil rejoins the flock, Cookie arrives soon

Basil has been reunited with the lovie flock. I'm happy with the decision. She and her friend/mate (who knows really) are repaired and Cilantro and his mate are still snuggly as well.

I feel like the past few weeks have flown by. So much has happened. So much happiness and heartbreak.

I got some pics that I will post soon of the lovie clan, and I have been making new toys that I hope they will love (they go through tearing toys like MAD! They love them!), I hope to have some time after work tomorrow to spend with them.

I'm very sure that Basil's issues were from outside causes and not illnesses so I am preparing for Cookie's arrival. Im going out of state at the end of the month to spend time with family, it will be awesome if he comes before then! I want to spend some time with him!

Basil

Basil is looking much better. She still sometimes seems to take deep breaths but she has been eating her fruits and veggies and drinking well, staying active and generally looking like a perfectly healthy bird. I'm pretty sure that the issue was the insecticide and I'm glad she seems to be recovering. I think she will rejoin the other lovies in the flight soon.
